When driving on Interstate 40, one will inevitably need to stop in one of the many towns that front the former US Route 66 which I-40 replaced many years ago. The now decommissioned Route 66 still has sections that run along I-40. The Business I-40 spurs that go to these towns are in many cases sections of the old “Mother Road” as well. As interesting as these time capsule towns are to visit and explore, the classic local diners and burger joints can get super busy with tourists wanting to experience some of this unique authentic vibe. This can cause waits for a table to last as much as 45 minutes. What is a cross country driver on a schedule to do? We suggest that if you wish to dine in a real locally owned restaurant in a Historic Route 66 town, go for Chinese. These establishments have been operating in many US 66 locales for decades and decades, thus can be classified as part of the experience. More importantly, it is usually easy to get a table, eat hot tasty dishes and then get on your way. Just a suggestion, for what it’s worth.
