I Thought That I Had Seen it All. Then I Watched a Bizarrely Pitched Supplement Ad.
The commercial started out as a normal buy these supplements because they will do this and that for you advertisement. Then, it got a little weird. The spokesman/owner of the company started pleading for interested customers not to buy his product from a certain well known named shopping site or another major one also named, but instead, to call their advertised phone number shown on the screen to place their orders. Why? The spokesman said that fake versions of his product have been promoted on these and other web sites and he wanted to make sure that customers got the real product instead of one loaded with fillers like talcum powder. Could this counterfeiting be one of the many unfortunate results stemming from the misuse of AI? Well, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck… And, if this guy’s product is affected, how many others which are ordered innocently from trusted shopping portals are also possibly fake?
